The trail descriptions are organized according to the actual trail numbers. Half-Day Hikes
Kleinarl (No. 1), 2 hours
The hiking path to Kleinarl
begins at the valley terminal of the Grafenberg lifts (cabin lift), and leads
along the banks of the Kleinarler Ache through the bottom of Kleinarltal Valley
to Kleinarl.
Bauernstüberl via Kleinarl hiking path (path No.
1), 1 hour
From the Grafenberg lifts alongside the Kleinarler Ache
to Seifriedbrücke bridge, at which point we turn off towards the Bauernstüberl.
Fürbach Tour, paths Nos. 1 and 5, 1 ½ hours
From
the Grafenberg lifts along the Kleinarl hiking path (No. 1) to the small
community of Unter-spannberg, via the Fürbachweg (No. 5) up to the Kirchboden
and then return to Wagrain, or in reverse direction.
Schwaighof
hiking path (No. 2), 1 hour
Begins at the Grafenwirt, leading out
along the banks of the Payerbach and Schwaighofbach to the village of Schwaighof
(Gasthof Schwaighofwirt ).
Schloss Höch, path (Nos. 2 or 2a), 1
hour from Schwaighof village
Through Schwaighof village, then via
the foot-/bike path next to the main highway to Moadörfl (Gasthof Moawirt ),
past Unterschütt, Oberschütt and Gasteg farms to Schloss Höch . Path No. 2a
takes us out along the Niederberg to the Unterschüttbauer farm.
Hiking Tour: Schwaighof – Moadörfl – Unterschüttbauer, paths
Nos. 2 and 2a, 1 hour
From Schwaighof village via the highway to
Niederbergweg (No. 2a). The first section is a forestry road as far as the
valley terminal for the Rote Achter cabin lift, with the second section leading
across meadows to Unterschüttbauer farm. We return via the bike path to Moadörfl
(Gasthof Moawirt ) and Schwaighof village (Gasthof Schwaighofwirt ).
Grub Country Inn, No. 51, 1 hour
From Café Bosek to
Grubstrasse (Hotel Enzian), turn off onto the Sonnseite supply road, gently
climbing until we come to Vordertiefenbach farm, at the subsequent two turn-offs
(Tiefenbachgraben) hike left into Ginautal valley as far as the Grub inn .
Path No. 51 continues out to the uppermost part of Ginautal valley and
the Oberlehengut (an extra 45 min.).
Schickenreitbauer, No. 53,
1 ½ hours
Along Grubstrasse – Sonnseite supply road to
Vordertiefenbach farm. At the subsequent two supply road crossings in the
Tiefenbachgraben first hike left, then right, continuing to Schickenreitbauer
farm. Option to return via path No. 54.
Alter Öbristweg, No. 54,
1 ½ hours
Hike up along the Hof supply road as far as the bridge
over the Tiefenbachgraben. Turn off there and follow an old packers’ trail (path
No. 54) via Röcksbergbauer farm to Öbristbauer farm. A refreshment stop is
possible at the Oberegg country inn . Many variants are possible for the hike
back down.
Around the Öbristköpfl, Nos. 55 and 453, 1 ½ hours
By car along the Öbrist supply road (traveling towards Flachau,
turn off the main road after 2 km) to the Oberegg country inn . From the
Oberegg on path No. 453 (Hochgründeckweg) to Lackenkapelle (chapel) , making a
left, path No. 55, circumnavigating the Öbristköpfl and returning to our
starting point, or in reverse, from the Oberegg to Öbristbauer farm , along
path No. 55 to the Lackenkapelle , where we will make a right, heading towards
Wagrain, with path No. 453 taking us back to the Oberegg.
Hike up to the
Öbristköpfl, turn-off at the Öbristbauer farm, 45 minutes.
Lackenkapelle (chapel), No. 56, 3 hours
Along the
hiking path towards Schwaighof until we come to the entrance to the
Halsnergraben, where we will turn left and follow the stream to Viehhofbrücke
bridge. Cross the main highway and continue via the Öbristweg (supply road) for
another 200 m. Turn right to Pension Tannenhof, now hiking on path No. 56 up to
the Bergweg supply road; continue along the supply road as far as Unterbergbauer
farm. At the junction of supply roads, make a left (No. 56) as far as the
Arzberghof. Once there, turn left onto the trail leading to the Lackenkapelle .
Schwaighof - Moadörfl, No. 58, 1 ½ hours
From
Schwaighof village into the Schwaighofgraben, branch right (No. 58), ascending
along the Oberseitenweg, turn right at the second switchback and hike down the
trail to the Moadörfl (Gasthof Moawirt ).
Schüttbachweg, No.
59, 1 ½ hours
From Moadörfl via the Zollweg supply road up to
Oberkendlbauer farm, where we will branch off to the right and continue along
the flat supply road. After Schütt¬bach farmstead, we descend via a trail and
old packers’ route to Unterschüttbauer farm, then take hiking path No. 2 back to
the Moadörfl (Gasthof Moawirt) .
Lärchenwaldweg, No. 61, 1 hour
Hike up along Weberlandl supply road. At the second switchback by
the second road, turn left, hiking up trail No. 61 to Weberlandl resort village,
the Daarbauer farm and the Edelweissalm . Return along the Weberlandl supply
road.
Moadörfl - Edelweissalm, No. 60, 1 ½ hours
From the Moadörfl to the valley terminal of the Rote Achter cabin
lift, and via the forestry road (No. 60) to the Edelweissalm .
Wagrain – Moadörfl - Edelweissalm, paths Nos. 2, 2a, 60 and 61,
4 hours
From Wagrain to Schwaighof village (No. 2), 100 m prior to
the main highway make a right onto Niederbergweg (No. 2a), leading into the
Moadörfl. From the valley terminal of the Rote Achter cabin lift along path No.
60 to the Edelweissalm and along the Lärchenwaldweg (No. 61) back to Wagrain.
Edelweissalm - Nazbauer, No. 62, 1 hour
From the
Edelweissalm via the forestry road to Nazbauer farm (Hotel Berghof) .
Jandlalm, No. 63, 2 hours
From the Edelweissalm ,
via trail No. 63 to the Griessenkaralmen (Jandlalm) . Hike down along paths
Nos. 64 and 714 to Nazbauer farm, then take the forestry road (No. 62) back to
our original starting point.
Jandlalm – “Blauer Steig”, No. 64,
2 hours
Take the cabin lift or your car to the Nazbauer (Hotel
Berghof). From the Nazbauer, hike up via Alpine Assoc. trail No. 714 for about
half-an-hour, then turn left and take trail No. 64 to the Jandlalm
(Griessenkaralmen).
Vierteckweg, No. 66, 2 hours
From the Kirchboden along Wolfensberg supply road as far as the supply road
crossing, turning right. Now partly on supply road, partly on an old packers’
trail (No. 66), we hike up to Ober-vierteckbauer farm . From here along the
trail (No. 66) until we come to the Baierwald¬strasse (No. 71).
Schüttalmweg, No. 67, 3 hours
From Wagrain via
Kleinarl hiking path (No. 1) to the Bauernstüberl. This is the start of the old
cart path next to the Kleinarler Strasse. We now hike up through cow pastures
and forest to the forestry road (No. 71), continuing right on this, then left on
the country lane (No. 67) to Gasthof Schüttalm .
Kaserlehenweg,
No. 69, 2-hour hike up, 1 ½-hour hike down
Via the Grafenbergweg,
we turn left after the supply road crossing towards Strahlehenbauer farm and
hike up path No. 69 across a cow pasture. Continue along a tractor path to the
Kaser-lehen, and through the forest via a trail leading to the forestry road,
taking the latter to Berggasthof Höllenstein . Several options for the hike
down, e.g. via the Handleggweg (No. 68) or via Unterhöllenstein mountain inn
(713).
Half-Day Hikes from the
Mountain Terminal of the Grafenberg
Cabin Lift
Sonntagskogel, elev. 1,849 m, path No. 713, 1 hour
Drop
from the mountain terminal down to the Hachaualm (refreshments available), and
take Alpine Assoc. path No. 713 to the Sonntagskogel . After hiking down from
the summit, combine with the hike out to the Auhofalm.
Auhofalm
- Maurachalm, paths Nos. 713 and 712, 1 hour
Hike from the mountain
terminal down to the Hachaualm (staffed, refreshments available) and follow
Alpine Assoc. path No. 713 to the Sonntagskogel trail crossing, continuing left
along trail No. 712 to the Auhofalm (not staffed) and over the Auhofalmsattel
(alpine saddle) to the Maurachalm (refreshment opportunity) . Return either via
Strassalmsattel– Grossunterbergalm or via the Sonntagskogel.
Via
Auhofalm up to the Gabel (Kitzstein), elev. 2,037 m, path No. 713, 2 ½
hours
Hike from the mountain terminal down to the Hachaualm
(staffed, refreshments available) and follow Alpine Assoc. path No. 713 to the
Sonntagskogel trail crossing, continuing left along trail No. 712 to the
Auhofalm (not staffed). Trail No. 712 now takes you on a steep hike up to the
summit , with surefootedness and lack of dizziness issues an absolute must.

Half-Day Hikes from the
Mountain Terminal of the Flying
Mozart Cabin Lift
Griessenkareck, elev. 1,991 m, 1 hour
from the mountain
terminal directly to the summit . Hike down the same way, or via the Wagrainer
Haus (No. 714a) back to the mountain terminal.
Griessenkareck
– descent via Saukarriedel to the Jandlalm, 1 ½ hours
from the
mountain terminal straight to the top of the Griessenkareck . Hike down via the
Saukarriedel to path No. 45 and the Griessenkaralmen (Jandlalm).
Bettlersteig (path No. 714a), 2 ½ hours
Hike down
to the Wagrainer Haus , then up along the mountain ridgeline (Alpine Assoc.
trail No. 714), turning right and following the “Bettlersteig” (No. 714a) to the
Ahornkarkopf and Ahornkarsattel. Turn left and take Alpine Assoc. trail No. 714
up the Saukarkopf, continuing on to the Saukarfunktel (elev. 2,028 m) and back
to the start.
All-Day Hikes
Kitzsteinalm via Sauwaldstrasse (No. 72), 4 hours
By car
to our starting point on the Kleinarler Strasse. The Sauwaldstrasse (No. 72)
branches off to the right of the Kleinarler Landesstrasse at Feuersangbauer farm
(closed to general traffic beyond Lehenbauer farm). Hike up along the
Sauwaldstrasse to the Kitzsteinalm .
Hike down along the path to the
Kleinarler Hütte (No. 5) and Kleinarl, then take the valley path back to the car
(No. 1).
Kitzsteinalm, paths Nos. 1 and 72, 5 - 6 hours
From Wagrain along the Kleinarl hiking path (No. 1) to Lehenbauer farm. Hike
up via the Sauwaldstrasse, No. 72, and a country cart path to the Kitzsteinalm
.
Ginau – Lackenkapelle – Wagrain Hiking Tour, No. 51, 4 ½
hours
Via path No. 51 (please refer to our half-day hikes) to the
Grub country inn , returning via Ginautal valley head. Hike down from
Oberlehenbauer farm across cow pastures via a trail to the Lackenkapelle
(chapel) and path No. 453 or No. 55, followed by No. 54 or 53 to Wagrain.
Lackenkapelle - Schwaighofdörfl, Nos. 56 and 57, 5
hours
Hike via path No. 453 (Hinterleitenstrasse - Holleregg or
Öbrist supply road) up to the Lackenkapelle . 200 m prior to the chapel, make a
right, taking trail No. 56 through the forest and across the pastures to the
Arzkendl and the Arzberghof. From this point, hike down via the supply road as
far as Unterbergbauer farm, turning left (No. 57), now ascending gently once
more to Aubauer farm and Untersteffenbauer farm at the end of the supply road.
From the Untersteffen¬bauer, hike along the trail across the meadows and down to
Schwaighof village .
Forestry road, Moadörfl - Edelweissalm -
Nazbauer - to Kleinarl, Nos. 60, 62, 71, 6 hours
From the Moadörfl
to the valley terminal of the Rote Achter cabin lift, ascending via the forestry
road (No. 60) to the Edelweissalm , continuing on the forestry road (No. 62) to
the Nazbauer (Hotel Berghof) , and through Schlögl and Baierwald forests (No.
71) to Kleinarl.
Hochgründeck, elev. 1,827 m, No. 453, 3
hours
By car along the Öbristweg to the last bend (parking
available), from where we make a right towards the Lackenkapelle (chapel) , the
Lackenalm, along a trail and a last section of forestry road to the Ginauer
Sattel, after the forest gate following a steep uphill trail to the summit (No.
453) or to the Heinrich Kiener-Haus (refreshment opportunity) .
If
you prefer to avoid the steep climb, continue from the Ginauer Sattel left on
the forestry road (30 min.), then right on paths Nos. 453a and 451 (St.
Johanner-Weg) to the Heinrich-Kiener-Haus (refreshment opportunity) and on to
the summit from there .
Variant: by car for about 4 km along the main
road to St. Johann i. Pongau, then right on the Floitensberg supply road, past
Windberg farmstead as far as the forest gate, parking is available. From there
it takes about 2 ½ hours to the top of the Hochgründeck .
Sonntagskogel, elev. 1,849 m, No. 713, 4 hours
Hike
from Wagrain up along Alpine Assoc. path No. 713, via Berggasthof Höllenstein
and Hachaualm to the top of the Sonntagskogel .
Griessenkareck, elev. 1,991 m, No. 714, 4 hours
From the Kirchboden along the Wolfensbergweg (Wolfensberg farm ),
to Hotel Berghof (Nazbauer) , via Alpine Assoc. path No. 714 to the Wagrainer
Haus and on to the summit.
All-Day Hikes from the
Mountain Terminal of the Grafenberg
Cabin Lift
Via the Gabel (Kitzstein), elev. 2,037 m, to the Kleinarler Hütte,
Nos. 713 and 712, 3 hours
Hike down from the mountain terminal at
the Hachaualm , following Alpine Assoc. trail No. 713 to the trail crossing by
the Sonntagskogel, making a left, now on Alpine Assoc. trail No. 712 as far as
the Auhofalm (not staffed) . Via Alpine Assoc. trail No. 712, making a steep
climb to the summit. Just below the summit, hike down across the mountainside
(secured by a cable), then across alpine pastures to the Kleinarler Hütte .
Hike back down to Kleinarl.
Via the Wandneralm to the Kleinarler
Hütte, 4 hours
From the mountain terminal along Alpine Assoc. paths
Nos. 713 and 712 to the Auhofalm (not staffed), hiking down to the Maurachalm
(refreshment opportunity), then continue left to the Muggenfeldalm (path No. 42)
and the road (farm path) to the Wandneralm . Across to the Kascheggalm and via
a trail to Alpine Assoc. path No. 712, following this to the Kleinarler Hütte
(refreshment opportunity).
Kitzsteinalm, 3 hours
From the mountain terminal along Alpine Assoc. paths Nos. 713 and 712 to the
Auhofalm , via a forestry road downhill to the junction with the Sauwaldstrasse
(No. 72), continuing right as far as the next junction, then right up through a
series of bends to the Kitzsteinalm (alpine hut, open to the public). Hike
back down to Kleinarl.
Kitzsteinalm via the Gabel, 4 hours
From the mountain terminal along Alpine Assoc. paths Nos. 712 and
713 to the Auhofalm (not staffed). Via Alpine Assoc. path No. 712 on a steep
hike to the summit , surefootedness and lack of dizziness issues an absolute
must. Just below the summit, hike down along the mountainside (secured by a
cable) to the south, making your way around the “Seekar” (towards
Kitzsteinkopf), then turn right and hike down a steep trail to the Kitzsteinalm
.
Via the Gern to St. Johann im Pongau, No. 712, 4
hours
From the mountain terminal of the lifts up to the
Sonntagskogel . Traverse to the Gern (elev. 1,787 m), and then hike down to St.
Johann i. Pongau. Ride the post bus back to Wagrain.
All-Day Hikes from the
Mountain Terminal of the Flying
Mozart Cabin Lift
Griessenkareck – Schüttalm - Kleinarl, path No. 714, 3 hours
Hike from the mountain terminal up to the Griessenkareck , take
trail No. 714 (“Höhenweg Kleinarl”) along the ridgeline to the Saukarfunktel ,
hike down to the Ahornkarsattel, hike around the Ahornkarkopf and down to the
Schüttalmsattel , from where we continue down to the Gasthof Schüttalm
(refreshment opportunity) and on to Kleinarl.
Wagrainer Haus -
Schüttalm - Bauerstüberl - Wagrain, path No. 714a, 4 hours
Via the
Wagrainer Haus and Bettlersteig (No. 714a) to the Ahornkarkopf and Gasthof
Schüttalm . From here, hike along path No. 76 to forestry road No. 71 and
continue along path No. 67 down to the Bauernstüberl , following the Kleinarl
hiking path (No. 1) back to Wagrain.
Alpine Hike: Griessenkareck
– Weissenhofalm - Steinkaralm, No. 714, 5 hours to Kleinarl
Hike
from the mountain terminal up to the Griessenkareck (elev. 1,991 m) , along the
ridgeline (No. 714) or via the Bettlersteig (No. 714a) to the Ahornkarkopf, and
via Wildbühel and Weissenhofalm (refreshment opportunity) to the Steinkaralm
(refreshments). Hike back down to Kleinarl.
Alpine Hike:
Griessenkareck - Frauenalm - Jandlalm, Nos. 714 and 41, 4 ½ hours
Hike from the mountain terminal up to the Griessenkareck (elev. 1,991 m) ,
and along the ridgeline to the Ahornkarkopf (1,923 m), drop down to the
Frauenalm (Flachau) and via path No. 45 to the Griessenkaralmen . From the
Jandlalm, hike back up to our original starting point.
