THE BEST EXCURSIONS IN THE SALZBURGER LAND
Highlights await you whether you’re alone, with a partner, or with the whole family. To make planning as easy as possible, we’ve compiled some interesting excursion options and activities for you.
Wagraini’s Grafenberg
In summer, take the Grafenbergbahn effortlessly up to 1,700 meters where the adventure begins: Start from Grafenberg with activities like rafting or crossing the suspension bridge along the “Busy Bee” themed trail, then continue to the Hachau slide leading to the low-rope course. Head to the Swinging Forest with a stop at the Climbing Stadium, before the fascinating journey back to the Children’s Alm. Oversized adventure stations promise hours of fun for both young and old!
Soccerpark Wagrain
The Soccerpark Wagrain covers approximately three hectares (30,000 sqm) and features our 18-hole course, which will surely delight every soccer enthusiast. Similar to Salzburg & Schidlberg, our outdoor sports facility will quickly become one of the top summer highlights in Wagrain-Kleinarl. Plan about 1.5 to 2 hours to fully enjoy this extraordinary fun! Balls are available for free rental at our facility.
Burg Hohenwerfen
Burg Hohenwerfen, over 900 years old, offers a thrilling experience in Salzburg’s Pongau region. Perched on a steep rocky hilltop above the Salzach Valley, it provides sweeping views and a sense of adventure as you peer through its arrow slits, feeling the breeze from the surrounding mountain giants.
Eisriesenwelt in Werfenweng
The Eisriesenwelt (Ice Cave) is a labyrinthine cave system with over 40 kilometers of passages. Its formation occurred over an extensive period of time. The initial cracks and fissures in the limestone rock began to form during mountain uplifts around 100 million years ago. The caves in the Alps continue to evolve today, although many cave systems, including significant parts of the Eisriesenwelt, have ceased developing significantly due to drying out.
Jägersee and
Tappenkarsee Kleinarl
The Jägersee and Tappenkarsee in Kleinarl are two lakes of incredible beauty, separated by a steep rock face and many vertical meters, yet they appear as if crafted from a single mold. Hiking from Jägersee to Tappenkarsee is one of the most stunning experiences you can have in the Pongau region’s summer and is certainly among the absolute highlights here in the Salzburg region for me.
The city of Salzburg and its sights
The city of Salzburg and its sights are best explored directly in the city itself. Marvel at Salzburg’s landmark – Hohensalzburg Fortress – and the baroque Old Town with its charming narrow streets. For those interested in Mozart’s life, visit his birthplace and residence. Even in bad weather, there are guaranteed exciting discoveries, such as at the House of Nature.
Liechtensteinklamm
The Liechtensteinklamm is certainly one of the longest, deepest, and most impressive gorges in the Alps. The powerful roar of the waterfall, the moss-covered rocks in lush green, a legendary atmosphere, and sunbeams creating rainbows in the fine mist of water. This unique natural spectacle in the Salzburg region is known for an unforgettable excursion of a special kind – an experience for the whole family.
Salzwelten Hallein
In the “Salzwelten Hallein,” discover the original treasures of the Salzburg region hidden deep within the tunnels of the Dürrnberg. This oldest show mine in the world presents a fascinating underground world where “White Gold,” or salt, was mined over 2,500 years ago. With attractions like the salt lake, slides, a Celtic village, and ancient stories, embark on an exciting journey of discovery here.
Geisterberg St. Johann im Pongau
“Geisterberg St. Johann im Pongau” offers a magical experience for families with children. Young ones can explore various spirits along the Wichtelweg, while older children can enjoy alpine amusement park attractions like aerial swings, the Ghost Castle, bird nests, climbing dragon, Ghost Tower, water games, Ghost Lake, pine cone shooting booths, and much more. Adults can delight in panoramic hiking trails, enjoy the soothing sounds of water features, and relax at the Fairy Plaza, all set amidst stunning natural surroundings.
Goldwaschen in Rauris
Gold panning in Rauris is one of the last true adventures of our time. Set amidst the historical sites of the Goldberg group in Rauris, surrounded by freely flying vultures and eagles of the Krumeltal, you can wash gold from the natural stream where gold miners tried their luck centuries ago. Learn the art of gold panning and discover your own Tauern gold.
GROSSGLOCKNER HIGH ALPINE ROAD
And of course, one thing you mustn’t miss: the Grossglockner High Alpine Road. Let yourself be overwhelmed by the sight of majestic peaks and a magical natural landscape as you leisurely drive along the 48-kilometer mountain pass road.
